Phase IV Continues

Rappahannock United Way (RUW) is currently carrying out Phase IV of Community Impact in which we engage experts in Education, Income, and Health. In July, the Community Impact Task Force Phase IV Subcommittee met with representatives from Mary Washington Healthcare, the University of Mary Washington, and a local county administrator to learn their recommendations for engaging these experts. Their recommendation was that in Phase IV we convene all of the experts so that our strategies flow through all three focus areas. They believe we should not "silo" the three focus areas; rather, we should find synergies in making them work together to reach our goals.

Education: Children and adults fulfill their emotional, social, academic, and vocational potential.

Income: Households are financially independent.

Health: Individuals realize improved health status.

Mary Washington Healthcare is currently leading a community-wide initiative in which RUW will participate called the Healthy Communities Partnership, a collaborative effort of public and community organizations with an ultimate goal of improving the health of our community. This initiative complements Rappahannock United Way’s current stage of Community Impact and will play a vital role as we move forward. The resources available to us as a member of this partnership will benefit all areas of Community Impact, including Education and Income. The sub-committee also suggested that the University of Mary Washington could play a vital role in Phase IV.

Our timetable for this project is to report out in the new year!

Thanks for following our Community Impact journey!

Bring Out the Experts!

Rappahannock United Way and its Community Impact Task Force (CITF) are currently in a planning stage in our journey toward Community Impact. Together, we are planning both the FY 2013 funding cycle and Phase IV of Community Impact in which we engage experts in Education, Income, and Health. With these experts we will explore the Intentions for our community that we shared with you last month:

Education: Children and adults fulfill their emotional, social, academic, and vocational potential.

Income: Households are financially independent.

Health: Individuals realize improved health status.

We are always available to support our nonprofit agencies and help them build their capacities. Some upcoming trainings for nonprofits fall on the first Friday of every month:

  • Grant Application and Presentation Tips (Friday, September 2nd)
  • Outcome Measurement (Friday, October 7th)
  • Social Networking (Friday, November 4th)
Look out for more updates coming soon!
